Vermont State Assessments (VTCAP) Dates:
The State of Vermont requires a statewide assessment for grades 3-6, which is called the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP). The students in grades 3-6 are expected to test in the areas of ELA and Mathematics. The tests are computer adaptive and the plan is to test the students for 60-90 minutes per session. Then the schedule in their classrooms remains the same for the other parts of their day. They will be attending their specials, having recess, and carrying out their regular routines.
We will be conducting the English Language Arts (ELA) assessment on March 25th-28th with a make up day on March 29th. Students will then take the math assessment April 1st-4th and the make up date will be April 5th. We will not need that many days for the ELA and math assessments, but we will use that week in case we have any students who need more time or to make up a session that they missed. I just wanted to be sure you were aware of the dates so we can make sure your child is present to take the assessment.

Worldwide I Matter, You Matter Day is on March 28th. Our friend Salley Gibney came to visit Mettawee yesterday to share about this special day. Salley is giving our caring cards to all of our staff and students. The worldwide goal is to show 1,000,000 acts of caring for the month of March. Encourage your child to smile, wave, hug, text, call, hold a door, listen, and be supportive of others. It is important now more than ever to show kindness and respect to the people around us.
You Matter! Just imagine how different the world could be if we all spoke to everyone with respect and kindness.
Dear Mettawee Families,
There have been several children at our school who have recently been absent with symptoms of a stomach illness. Symptoms mainly include vomiting and/or diarrhea, fatigue, and sometimes a fever.
The “stomach bug” (possibly the norovirus) is generally a mild infection and individuals usually fully recover within 2-3 days. No specific treatment is needed, but it is important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
This virus is highly contagious and spreads easily from person to person through contaminated hands, surfaces or food. The virus lives in the GI tract and therefore is spread through tiny particles of feces or vomit left behind when an individual does not wash their hands properly or whose oral secretions or vomit is left behind on a surface.
Good hygiene is important to stop the spread of infection, especially frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water, particularly after toileting and before eating. Toilets, faucets, handles and door knobs should be disinfected frequently.
If your child develops stomach cramps, diarrhea or vomiting please keep them home until they have been symptom free and tolerating a regular diet for at least 24-48 hours, as the virus is contagious for a little while even after a person is feeling better.
*The CDC recommends staying home until you have been symptom free for at least 48 hours because the virus can continue to be shed from the body for up to 2 weeks!
If symptoms do not resolve after 48 hours or if your child shows signs of dehydration such as decreased urination, decreased intake of fluids, unusual fussiness or unusual drowsiness please contact your child’s doctor.
We are sanitizing door knobs, tables, etc and encouraging frequent hand washing to minimize the spread here at school.
If you have any questions please feel free to call the health office at 802-645-9009 or mmayer@brsu.org

It is time for the MSC Class of 2024’s Yearbook!
Dear 6th Grade Families,
We need your Help! Please turn in the following:
Baby Photo: The baby photo page in the yearbook is not just a page. It's a cherished tradition that showcases the journey of each 6th grader, from their adorable baby days to the confident young individuals they are today. We are excited to continue this tradition with the MSC Class of 2024, and we need your help to make it special.
Parent Message: Your voice is unique, and your words are precious. We invite you to share, in a special tradition, 6th graders' parent messages. Whether it's a heartfelt 'congrats and good luck' or a longer expression of love and pride, your message is a valuable addition to our yearbook. Please keep it to 75 words or less to fit our space limitations. Don't forget to include salutations, for example, Dear Billy, ….. Love, Mom.
6th Grade Portrait: You have two options.
1. Send a “senior” style portrait photo taken since the 1st of the school year.
2. School Mini Photo Session. We are lucky this year to have two professional photographers - Alexciyah Woodworth and Cori Rail! The yearbook team will coordinate a mini photo session during the school day with any student needing a photo. It will include one favorite outfit and a few shots to choose from.
ALL Due By April 1st
Please submit to Amanda Bickford at abickford@brsu.org.
