From The Principal's Desk...
As we wrap up another wonderful school year, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to the entire Mettawee community—teachers, staff, and parents—who have come together to support our students every step of the way.
Our teachers have dedicated their time and energy to creating engaging assignments, supporting student learning, building strong connections with families, and—most importantly—having fun with their students. Their creativity, commitment, and care have made a lasting impact.
Our paraprofessionals have gone above and beyond, supporting students individually, in small groups, and in whole-class settings. Whether overseeing recess, covering classrooms, riding buses, providing child care, or stepping in wherever needed, they have been an essential part of our school community.
Our School Nurse, Mrs. Mayer, is the artist behind the daily Mettawee Welcome boards! Thank you for always being there for our students. Your calm and caring demeanor always puts our students at ease.
Our kitchen staff have worked tirelessly to provide healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks every day. They have kept the kitchen spotless, supported our backpack program, and ensured that every student is nourished and cared for.
Our custodians have kept our building safe, clean, and welcoming. Their behind-the-scenes work—especially their extra efforts setting up and taking down for school-wide events—has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to Mrs. Chalmers and Mrs. O’Brien for being true team players. Their strong communication skills and willingness to take on whatever tasks are needed each day help keep our school running smoothly.
And to our parents—thank you for your support, your collaboration, your problem-solving, and your presence at conferences and school-wide events. Your partnership means the world to us and plays a vital role in our students' success.
I am grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you for a wonderful school year. I’m excited to continue this journey with you as your principal for the 2025–2026 school year.
I’d like to wish Cill Waterhouse a very happy retirement! Cill has been with Mettawee Community School since it opened in 1998, and she’s been a dedicated, caring teacher ever since.
Over the years, Cill has done so much more than teach—she’s gone above and beyond to support our students, staff, and families. She’s been known to hop on the early morning buses and stay late to ride the afternoon routes, all because she truly cares about our students and their safety.
Cill has also taken the lead on managing preschool transportation harnesses, acted as our weather watcher during morning drop-off, and helped out at countless school-wide events. She's always willing to step in and lend a hand.
Her patience, professionalism, and the strong relationships she’s built with families have made her a huge part of our school community. As the leader of our early education program, Cill has created engaging, thoughtful lessons that have made a big difference for our preschoolers. Her dedication, reliability, and care haven’t gone unnoticed.
I’ve really enjoyed working with Cill and learning from her over the years. We’re all going to miss having her as part of our team, but we’re so happy for her as she moves into this next chapter.
Congratulations, Cill—you’ve more than earned this!
We’d like to wish Cassie Paine all the best as she transitions to spending more time at home with her children. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re so happy for her and this next chapter in her life.
Cassie has done a wonderful job supporting our students and working closely with our teachers. As an OT, she’s brought kindness, care, and expertise to everything she does. She’s built strong, positive relationships with both students and staff, and her calm, thoughtful presence will truly be missed.
Cassie, thank you for all you’ve done for our school community. We hope you’ll come back and visit us—

Congratulations, Lexci Barlow!
We are so proud of you for earning your Bachelor's Degree—what an incredible achievement! While we will deeply miss having you as a paraeducator, we are truly grateful for the time, commitment, and flexibility you dedicated to supporting our students.
Your positive impact has been felt not only by the students you worked with but by our entire school community. Thank you for everything you’ve done.
We’re excited to welcome you back as a substitute next year!

6th Grade Trip to Camp Chingachgook
Our sixth graders recently enjoyed an exciting and memorable overnight trip filled with adventure and teamwork! Students participated in a variety of activities including team-building exercises, a low ropes course, archery, wall climbing, and canoe riding. On the second day, they challenged themselves by completing the high ropes course—a major accomplishment!
Beyond the activities, students had a great time sharing meals, encouraging one another, spending time by the campfire, and trying new experiences together. Their behavior was excellent, and they truly made the most of this opportunity to bond and grow as a group.
It was a fantastic trip that will be remembered for years to come!
3rd Grade Trip to Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home
Our third graders had a wonderful time visiting Hildene in Manchester, Vermont, where they participated in two engaging educational programs.
First, students explored the fascinating world of bumble bees, learning about their role in the ecosystem. Then, through the Windows to the Past program, they toured the Lincoln Family Home and an authentic Pullman Car, gaining insight into history and daily life during Abraham Lincoln’s era.
As a special highlight, students had the rare opportunity to see one of Abraham Lincoln's hats and enjoyed visiting the goats on the Lincoln farm.
It was a fun and enriching experience for all!
