From The Principal's Desk...

Welcome Back!

On behalf of the entire Mettawee Staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of a new school year. For those of you whose children have attended our school in the past, welcome back! For those of you whose children are just entering Mettawee School for the first time, we are pleased to have you as part of our school community.

We are thrilled to be celebrating our 27th year! As we prepare to welcome students back, our teachers and staff have been working incredibly hard to ensure everything is ready for a fantastic school year.

The hallways are shiny, the classrooms are bright and organized, and we’ve made some exciting updates — including new carpets in four offices and a redesigned meeting room.

I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bill Wood, Brad Curtis, Cheryl Chalmers, and Lisa O’Brien for their dedication and hard work over the summer. Your efforts have truly made a difference!

I’m looking forward to working with you to support and educate your child throughout the year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Cheryl Chalmers or Lisa O’Brien at (802)645-9009 to schedule a time to meet with me.

All-School Meetings

We’re excited to continue our tradition of All-School Meetings every other Wednesday afternoon from 1:50 to 2:25 PM. During this special time, students in grades K–6 come together to:

  • Celebrate birthdays

  • Share important announcements

  • Teach one another what we’re learning in our classrooms

  • Sing songs

  • Strengthen our school community

Our first All-School Meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd and will be led by Ms. Hoyt, along with our UA and Special Education teachers. They will be teaching and modeling the expectations for All-School Meetings, including how we use the microphone effectively.

We are currently in need of coaches for all teams.  If you are interested in coaching please contact Mrs. Webb.

K, 1, and 2 will practice once a week from 2:30-3:30 for about 6 weeks and will NOT play games.

Grades 3-4 will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:00 and will play a few games.

Grades 5-6 will practice on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00-5:30 and will play games.

A practice schedule will be sent home when coaches are determined. We are hoping to start practicing the week of 9/08.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Webb by calling the school: 802-645-9009 or by email: jwebb@brsu.org.

Advisories

On October 15th, we will introduce Advisories. During Advisories, students will be placed in small, mixed-grade groups of 7–9 students, each led by a teacher. Each group will include one or two students per grade level.

Advisories will meet every other week and take part in fun and meaningful activities like:

  • Reading books

  • Playing games

  • Sharing stories

  • Making cards

  • Learning social-emotional skills

  • Participating in school events together

These groups are a great way for students to build relationships not only with their peers across grade levels but also with all the teachers and staff.
