Flood Brook School

Roaring Tiger

Volume LVIII, Issue 5 November 3, 2023

From the Principal

Dear Flood Brook Families,

We had a wonderful Spirit Week this week, thank you to everyone who helped their children find the right colors, wacky outfits, comfy clothes and team jerseys to wear!  Our All School Recess on Tuesday was a roaring success, despite the fact that the 8th graders beat the staff in our soccer game.  These types of activities and celebrations truly do help build a positive sense of community which in turn increases student engagement and learning!

Emotional Wellness and Mind-Body Connection

Hello Flood Brook Families,

Welcome to November!  This month is Empathy month, and we are embracing it wholeheartedly here at Flood Brook.

Empathy is defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.  Others refer to it as "feeling with" others - it is the foundation of social awareness, is critical in building trusting relationships, and is a key to kindness.  Brene Brown has written extensively on the subject, and it is connected to the concept of "mentalization" - being able to understand the feelings and thoughts of others to explain behavior, a key component of mental well-being.

From the Nurse's office:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Lion's Club of Londonderry will be coming to Flood Brook with their Welch Allyn Vision Screening cameras on Monday, November 13 to perform a vision screening.  The state requires that grades K, 1, 3, 5 and 7 are screened for both vision and hearing.
